Invisalign for kids in Sacramento is a common question at consultations: parents ask whether their child can skip brackets and straighten teeth with clear aligners instead. Sometimes the answer is yes. Dr. Gregory Evrigenis evaluates children for Invisalign at both our Sacramento offices, and the consultation is free — including the part where he tells you if aligners are the wrong tool for your child’s case.

Invisalign uses a series of custom, removable trays. Each set is shaped slightly differently from the last, so wearing them in sequence walks the teeth toward their planned positions. Nothing is bonded permanently, nothing is tightened, and the trays come out for meals and brushing.

Is My Child a Candidate?

Three things decide it: what the teeth need to do, where your child is in their dental development, and whether they will actually wear the trays.

  • The movements required. Aligners handle crowding, spacing and many alignment problems well. Severe rotations, impacted teeth and large bite corrections are usually faster and more predictable with braces.
  • Dental development. Aligner treatment for a mixed dentition — some baby teeth, some permanent — is possible but has to be planned around teeth that are still erupting.
  • Wear time. Trays must be in for roughly 20 to 22 hours a day. A child who takes them out and leaves them in a lunchbox will not finish on schedule, and honestly assessing that is a family decision.

Dr. Evrigenis will not sell aligners to a child who needs brackets. If your child is not a candidate today, he will explain what would need to change for that to be different.

How Treatment Works Step by Step

1. Free Consultation

An exam, imaging, and a direct answer about whether clear aligners fit the case.

2. Digital Scan and Plan

A digital scan captures the teeth without impression trays. Dr. Evrigenis maps out the movements, and you can see the projected sequence before treatment begins.

3. Wearing the Trays

Your child changes to the next set on the schedule we give you, usually every one to two weeks. Small tooth-colored attachments may be bonded to a few teeth to give the trays something to grip.

4. Progress Visits

Check-ins every several weeks confirm the teeth are tracking with the plan. If a tooth lags behind, we adjust rather than push forward.

5. Retainers

When the last tray comes out, retainers keep the result. This step is not optional at any age.

The Honest Trade-offs

Removable is a benefit and a risk in the same feature. Trays that spend the day in a pocket are not moving teeth, and lost trays cost time. Younger patients also need a parent involved in tracking wear and changing trays on schedule — this is not a treatment your child manages alone.

There are also cases where an aligner plan takes longer than braces would, or would leave a bite correction only partly finished. When that is true for your child, we say so at the consultation rather than after nine months of trays. For many children, clear ceramic braces deliver the discreet appearance families want with the predictability of fixed appliances.

Questions We Hear Most

Is there a minimum age for Invisalign?

There is no fixed age. Candidacy depends on dental development and the movements needed, which is exactly what the consultation exam determines.

Does it hurt?

Each new tray feels tight and slightly sore for a day or so, then settles. Most children describe it as pressure rather than pain.

What if a tray is lost?

Call us. Depending on where your child is in the sequence, we will have them go back to the previous tray or move ahead to the next one — do not simply skip forward on your own.

Will it affect speech?

There may be a slight lisp for the first few days while the tongue adapts. It goes away.

How much does it cost?
